Developer Operations Specialist

North Plains has an exciting opportunity for a fulltime Developer Operations Specialist. We are currently seeking an innovative, high-energy individual to join our Engineering Team at our downtown Toronto office.

The Role:

As a DevOps Specialist, you will have an active role supporting the development team for our flagship Digital Asset Management (DAM) product Telescope. We are looking for a DevOps Specialist that is passionate about building streamlined processes from development to release and taking ownership of a production system that is shaping the way the creative industry works. You should have strong technical abilities, an eye for detail, and a knack for producing efficient, automated, and scalable processes in a very dynamic work environment.

Under the general direction of the Director Telescope Engineering, and as part of the development team, this position provides the technical expertise, advice, and problem solving in the building and installation of our own Digital Asset Management application;
Own and manage the build and installation process;
Administer source control system and issue tracking system;
Proactively identify problem areas for the team both technically and procedurally and recommend improvements;
Be required to identify system resource bottlenecks and work with other teams to test and tune systems for optimal performance while collaborating regularly with colleagues both inside and outside the development team;
Creating technical documentation for work that is being completed;
Build and maintain tools for automated builds, testing, releases, and system monitoring;
Performing other related duties as required.

Your Skills and Experience:

You are a collaborator and have the ability to think outside the box. You have good interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure while paying attention to detail and ensuring accuracy. You have effective organizational skills with ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. You are willing and able to learn quickly, and able to work with little supervision.

B.S. degree in Computer Science or Information Systems (or equivalent experience) with 5 years of experience as a Unix/Linux Systems Admin in a high volume / highly available web hosts environment;
As well as proven experience installing, supporting, patching and hardening software with database servers (Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle clusters);
Strong Windows and Linux system administration experience;
Expert Unix shell scripting (bash, csh, ksh + all) and the ability to design and write operating system and platform utilities;
Experienced with large scale automation and monitoring;
Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with VMware/vSphere;
Strong systems benchmarking and performance optimization skills; strong TCP/IP knowledge, network administration and trouble shooting skills;
Experience in complex web hosting configuration components, including firewalls, load balancers, web servers, application servers and database servers;
Well-versed in Apache HTTPD and Microsoft IIS;
Experience with all aspects of IT infrastructure and Data Center operations;
Disaster recovery planning and experience with high availability systems;
Nice to have: Certification in ITIL v3 (Information Technology Infrastructure Library), Foundations from a recognized authority;
• Nice to have: Hands-on experience with various NAS/SAN technologies;
• Nice to have: Experience in or knowledge of content technologies, content management software, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), publishing and business applications;
• Experience with automated testing applications;
• Experience working within an agile development environment.
